An extensive extended journey through the Land Down Under has been cancelled following the fatal incident of an older lady who was abandoned by the ship on a remote tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been walking on the tropical location with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The ship left without her and returned after some time after the personnel discovered the passenger was missing.

A major search operation located her person the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, in coordination with investigators and the state coroner.

The CEO of the shipping company announced that travelers and staff on the ship were told that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and earlier technical problems".

Via official communication, he further stated that travelers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to organize the homeward trips of the travelers via private aircraft".

Officials also published an updated announcement, and said they had "issued a directive to the Master" preventing any additional guests from entering the vessel.

The official said that they would visit the vessel in the Australian city upon its coming back.

Sequence of Events

The liner originally sailed from the Australian port on 24 October, and was just two days into the voyage at the time of the senior passenger's passing. The remote island was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Travelers on board - who usually pay large sums of money to participate in the expedition - were taken there for a shore visit with the choice of walking or snorkeling.

Family Response

The child of the deceased woman said that her family was "shocked and grieved that the liner left the location after an organised outing without my mum".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her mum as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a member of a hiking group.

"According to scant facts we have been informed, it looks that there was a breakdown of care and basic judgment," she stated.

She further stated that she desired the investigation would be able to determine what "the operator should have performed that might have saved Mum's being".

"We understand from the authorities that it was a extremely warm afternoon, and mother fell ill on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"She was asked her to return, alone. Then the vessel sailed away, seemingly without conducting a passenger count.

"At some stage in that process, or shortly after, she succumbed, alone."

Operator Reaction

In a statement, the Chief Executive verified that the company was "working closely with authorities to assist their investigation".

He said that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had provided its complete assistance to the family.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The vessel caters for up to 120 guests with 46 staff, according to official information. It was specifically designed to reach remote regions of Australia's coast and is fitted with "small boats" - compact vessels used to transport passengers on shore trips.

Incidents of this nature are rare, and passenger vessels have systems to document which travelers are embarking or disembarking, according to travel authorities.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] onboard just isn't an option," an authority stated.

Vessel operators consider these processes extremely carefully and have "sophisticated systems in place to stop such occurrences from happening," the authority added.

"This appears to be presumably a surprising - and tragic - isolated incident."
